About the event
“Creaming” is a global phenomenon in the Employment Services Sector. Simply put, the “easy” clients get the jobs, while the “hard” clients get stuck hanging out on caseloads, losing motivation and confidence.
It’s pretty disheartening, when people who need the most help are trumped by those that provide an “easy stat”. Sometimes this is an intentional, almost cruel act (e.g. choosing not to open clients that won’t easily get a job, or turning them away). Other times, it is a function of cookie-cutter program delivery: every job seeker gets the same services and the same interventions, irrespective of any variables. However, research (and performance stats) tells us that one size doesn’t fit all (or often even most).
To provide inclusive, equitable and successful employment services, we must meet job seekers where they are at, especially those most distant from the labour market. Since job seekers have different strengths and needs, they will have different routes to employment and require different service interventions. This ultimately results in clients who are more apt to be engaged and committed to reaching their goals.
In this Smoke and Mirrors Webinar, Sarah and Angela will introduce a THRIVIVAL practice of establishing a simple, client-need model for service delivery. We will provide a categorization of job seekers on a caseload. This is not to classify people as more- or less-than, or “othered,” or to screen them out of service (they’ve got enough of those screens to contend with) but to customize the best prescription of service to accelerate their route to employment.
